New MediaTek chip to power flagships!

The new chipset promises huge performance leaps over its predecessor in terms of CPU, AI, and GPU prowess.

The main highlight is the 3nm process as MediaTek was finally able to produce this lithography similar to Apple. This means the chip has now up to 40 percent more efficient power draw thus providing its user with longer battery life.

This chip uses all big core designs comprising of ARM Cortex-X925 with a peak speed of 3.62GHz plus it has 3x Cortex-X4 and 4x Cortex-A720.

MediaTek claims it brings 35 percent faster single-core performance and 28 percent better multi-core capabilities from the Dimensity 9300.

Among its notable aspects is the 8th Generation NPU, which offers multiple industry firsts in generative AI performance. It is the first mobile chipset to enable on-device LoRA training and high-quality video creation. MediaTek's new Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE) turns standard AI applications into advanced agentic AI applications by providing up to 80 percent faster large language model (LLM) prompt performance alongside up to 35 percent more power-efficient.

In terms of gaming, the chip uses the 12-core Immortalis-G925 GPU with 40 percent faster ray racing than the previous generation.

It additionally enables opacity micromaps (OMM) for realistic visual effects and improves peak performance by 41 percent while conserving up to 44 percent of energy. Furthermore, the HyperEngine technology, which was developed in collaboration with Arm, gives extremely high resolution and image quality.

When it comes to imaging and multimedia, the Dimensity 9400 uses the MTK Imagiq 1090 capable of HDR video recording for the entire zoom range. The chipset's Smooth Zoom technology makes it easier to record moving subjects while reducing power consumption by up to 14 percent during 4K60 video capture. It features a maximum camera sensor resolution of 320MP and 8K60 video capture.

Connectivity-wise, the process uses the 3GPP Release-17 5G modem with 4CC-CA providing users sub-6GHz speed or up to 7 Gbps performance. It also has a new 4nm WiFi/Bluetooth combination chip with 7.3 Gbps data speeds and Wi-Fi 7 tri-band MLO capability. The MediaTek Xtra RangeTM 3.0 improves WiFi coverage by up to 30 meters. The chipset enables 5G/4G Dual SIM Dual Active and tri-fold handsets, allowing phone makers to create unique form factors.

Currently, the Dimensity 9400 is set to debut for the vivo X200 Series on October 14 in China. While the Find X8 Series will also have it on October 24.
