New IG look
Instagram just launched a new update that changed how users can view their profiles.
From the square layout, Instagram has changed the look of its profile tab with a rectangular grid. This means that the posts will appear longer compared to the previous 1:1 ratio.
Overall, the profile tab looks cleaner because the posts, specifically those in vertical ratio, do not get cropped.
The layout looks like what you can see on TikTok when you view your profile, or your reels when you go to the IG Reels tab.
If you do not like this new layout, unfortunately, there is no way to revert it to square yet.
Prior to its implementation, Instagram already tested this rectangular layout, pointing out that most posts on Instagram are vertical anyway.
According to The Verge, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has said "squares are from way back in the day when you can only upload square photos to Instagram," a limitation Instagram removed 10 years ago.
