Less costly chip but retains power

The latest high-end chip has a model number of SM8735 and is manufactured using TSMC’s N4P 4nm process.

Compared to the current flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 uses Kyro CPU cores instead of the newer Oryon cores. The chip features a single Cortex-X4 prime core with a maximum clock speed of 3.2GHz, along with three Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0GHz, two at 2.8GHz, and two more at 2.0GHz.

The chipmaker states that the new SoC delivers approximately 31 percent faster CPU performance and 39 percent better power efficiency compared to the previous generation. The SD 8s Gen 4 includes a presumed Adreno 825 GPU, which the company claims provides a 49 percent improvement in graphics performance over the previous model.

Additionally, the chipset supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, Snapdragon Game Super Resolution 2.0, and Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0, enhancing gaming and visual rendering capabilities.

Meanwhile, it uses a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU with a 44 percent increase in performance, providing users with upgraded built-in AI features.

For connectivity, the chipset integrates the Snapdragon X75 5G modem, along with WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 support.

Imaging capabilities include an 18-bit triple ISP, which supports camera sensors up to 320MP and 4K video recording at 60fps. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is expected to be featured in upcoming premium mid-range from REDMI, iQOO, Xiaomi, OPPO, Meizu.
