No more subway in Makati for now?

After all the initial work, it seems the Philippines can no longer see its first subway in Makati City.

Project contractor Philippine Infradev Holdings, Inc., said the project is "no longer economically and operationally feasible" due to the territorial dispute between Makati and Taguig.

In a bourse filing, the company said its board of directors approved the following after the Philippine Supreme Court's decision declaring some subway stations and depots to be under the jurisdiction of Taguig City instead of Makati City.

Earlier, the court had ruled that the 10 "embo" (enlisted men’s Barrios)—namely Pembo, Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, West Rembo, East Rembo, Pitogo, Rizal, Post Proper Northside, and Post Proper Southside—in Makati be transferred to Taguig.

This affects the alignment of the subway project designed to serve about 700,000 riders per day.

Philippine Infradev said "the arbitration proceedings have commenced with the Singapore International Arbitration Centre to enable an impartial resolution of the JVA with the Makati City."

What will happen next?

Mayor Abby Binay said that they are already in talks with a new contractor for the Makati City Subway Project. Whether it will be a subway, monorail, or a normal train, they will push to build a local mass transport system inside Makati City.

What do you think, guys?
