Connecting all students in the Philippines

President Bongbong Marcos has vowed to provide internet access to all public schools by the end of the year.

In his fourth State of the Nation Address, Marcos pointed out that nearly 12,000 public schools still have no internet access. The president also noted that the internet has a critical role in achieving a "New Philippines."

Kaya sinisiguro ng DICT at DepEd na bago matapos ang taong ito, magkakaroon na ng koneksyon sa internet ang lahat ng pampublikong paaralan, he was quoted saying by a report by GMA News Online.

In terms of infrastructure, Marcos said that the first three phases of the National Fiber Backbone project have been completed. The number of FREE WiFi sites across the country has also reached 19,000 this year from 4,000 in June 2022.

To enhance connection in geographically isolated areas, the government has started distributing over a million SIM cards with free data to schools. Additional towers and cell sites are also being constructed in remote places.
