Dubbed the 'the ultimate snap shooter', the new Ricoh GR IV blends portability, responsiveness, and stellar image quality. When compared to the previous GR III, the new GR IV comes with a new 25.7MP BSI CMOS sensor, a redesigned 28mm f/2.8 lens, 5-axis image stabilization, and a supposedly faster autofocus system.

The new GR IV is made with a magnesium alloy for durability and is slimmer and lighter at 109.4 x 61.1 x 32.7mm, and it weighs 262 grams.

The new 25.7MP APS-C BSI CMOS sensor (up from the 24MP sensor of the GR III), paired with the GR Engine 7 processor, is advertised to deliver cleaner images with less noise, especially in low-light settings. It has an ISO range of 100-204,800, and it supports 14-bit DNG and JPEG recording.

The new 5-axis, 6-stop Shake reduction system (up from the 3-axis in the GR III) compensates for types of camera shake, which makes the camera ideal for handheld and low-light photography.

Its revamped 18.3mm f/2.8 lens (28mm full-frame equivalent) is now made with a 7-element in 5 group design, which includes an aspherical, a high-refractive, and a low-dispersion glass. This supposedly results in edge-to-edge sharpness, reduced distortion, and better clarity compared to the previous GR III's lens. The lens is also lighter, which makes autofocus faster while keeping the camera slimmer.

Ricoh says that the improved face detection and subject tracking should reduce focus hunting and lead to snappy performance even in busy scenarios. The Full Press Snap function lets users focus at a preset distance by fully pressing the shutter.

It has a built-in 2-stop ND filter, and it features a macro mode (2.4-inch to 5.9-inch focus range), which adds flexibility to the number of shooting situations the new GR IV can be used in.

If you accidentally forget your UHS-I microSD card, the GR IV now comes with 53GB of internal storage. The camera is also capable of shooting up to 1080p video at 60 fps.

At the back of the camera is a 3.0-inch 1.04M-dot touchscreen LCD with a gapless design. Lastly, it now uses the DB-120 battery. It is rated for 250 shots (from the DB-110 with 200 shots).
