The Ayaneo Pocket Play

A Phone/handheld that fits in your pocket

Ayaneo has introduced its first mobile device, the Pocket Play, which merges smartphone capabilities with a slide-out physical gaming controller.

The design features a horizontal side-slide mechanism that reveals a full set of physical controls, including a D-pad, ABXY buttons, shoulder triggers, dual analog sticks, and two customizable smart touchpads. You could spot triggers at the back for added controls.
Traditional mode

When extended, the device is intended to function as a handheld console, with an ergonomic grip and control layout designed for extended gaming sessions. The sliding mechanism has been engineered for smooth operation, aiming to provide a tactile user experience.

The form factor revisits a sliding controller design last popularized by devices such as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play in 2011.

Ayaneo's version emphasizes a refined mechanism and aligns with the company's minimalist design approach.
Slided state

Technical specifications, including processor, display, battery, and software details, have not been released. The company has announced the device will launch soon, but its Kickstarter page currently provides no hardware information.

The Pocket Play reintroduces the sliding form factor to the smartphone market, a style that has been largely absent in recent years.

While modern retro handhelds have explored similar sliding designs, Ayaneo's entry is positioned as a contemporary smartphone integrating this feature with full mobile functionality.

  1. Cool that ayaneo brought back the Xperia Play idea with proper sticks and triggers, but without specs it’s hard to tell if it’ll actually be comfortable for daily use. Most of all I’m interested in battery life and how reliable the slider is, ‘cause nobody likes wobble after a couple months. I’d get this form factor for emulators and streaming, as long as it doesn’t overheat and the battery lasts. While I was watching a match and testing controls on my phone, I absentmindedly opened https://iplbetting.guru/bonuses/ in the browser and realized that on a device like this it’s way too easy to get distracted from the game by all sorts of stuff.
