Apple pushes updates 13-year old iPhone 5s and 6

After giving updates to its current devices, Apple also did not forget its decade-long devices.

Usable even after more than 10 years?

The Cupertino-based firm also issued updates for several older models, including the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6, which launched in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

The updates, identified as iOS 12.5.8 and iPadOS 12.5.8, are available for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, first-generation iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and sixth-generation iPod touch. Apple recommends installing the update.

According to the company, the update does not introduce new features but extends the certifications required for iMessage, FaceTime, and device activation. Installing it is necessary to install it for these functions to operate normally after January 2027.

iOS 12 was originally released eight years ago. This marks at least the second security-related update provided for these particular models since 2023.
