Possible ban of Roblox from DICT?

Safeguarding minors is a priority

In an announcement on Wednesday, March 18, DICT Secretary Henry Aguda stated that the agency is prepared to impose restrictions or a suspension on the platform if it fails to enhance its child protection measures and cooperate with local authorities.

The warning, which Aguda also shared on his official Facebook page, stems from reports of the platform being used for sexual predation, grooming, and exploitation.

Roblox, a popular creative platform with approximately 380 million monthly users worldwide, allows individuals to design and play games. While it has long served as a digital space for creativity across age groups, the platform has faced recurring international scrutiny over its safeguards for younger users.

Critics have pointed to its potential exploitation by malicious actors targeting children and teenagers.

More recently, concerns have expanded to include the platform's use by some individuals to expose young users to extremist ideologies and violent content.

It has not yet been clarified whether any potential enforcement action, such as restricting access to Roblox in the Philippines, would require a court order or could be enacted through direct government intervention.
