New gaming phone competitor?

Xiaomi has announced that the REDMI K90 Max will launch on April 21 at 7:00 PM. The device is positioned as a gaming-oriented flagship, with the company emphasizing performance, responsiveness, and extended gaming sessions as its primary design goals.

A central feature of the Redmi K90 Max is its e-sports touchscreen, which supports a 480Hz multi-finger touch reporting rate and a 3,500Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate. The display also integrates a 400Hz six-axis gyroscope. Xiaomi states the screen has undergone testing for up to one million continuous touches.

The phone sports a 6.83-inch display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. According to Xiaomi, the device is capable of running games at a native 165 frames per second while sustaining high-definition graphics quality simultaneously — a combination the company notes is supported in titles such as Delta Force.

To address thermal management during extended use, the REDMI K90 Max includes a built-in cooling fan, which Xiaomi describes as a first for its phone lineup. The system uses a sealed air duct and a metal structure.

The device carries IP66, IP68, and IP69 water and dust resistance ratings, and the cooling fan comes with a six-year warranty and lifetime maintenance support.

In the broader gaming smartphone segment, touch sampling rates among competitors generally range from 720Hz to 2,000Hz.

Brands such as ASUS ROG and iQOO have typically prioritized physical triggers and high refresh rate displays, while the REDMI K90 Max appears to differentiate itself through touch accuracy and gyroscope performance.
