OPPO Reno15 5G in Twilight Blue

To recap, the OPPO Reno15 features the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 octa-core processor, 6.59-inch AMOLED screen, LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, and 6,500mAh battery with 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging via USB-C.

Its highlights include a 50MP selfie camera, a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP 3.5x telephoto camera with an LED flash.

It is IP69 dust and water-resistant and is now available in the Philippines.

Price starts at PHP 36,999.

Multimedia Experience

OPPO Reno15 5G's front screen
OPPO Reno15 5G's front screen

In front is the 6.59-inch AMOLED screen with a 2760 x 1256 resolution, a 1,200 nits peak brightness, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. It supports 10-bit color and is Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protected.

Great quality at this price segment, as usual, and it is flat

At 1,200 nits of HDR brightness, the panel is readable under direct sunlight at maximum brightness. The images and text are crisp, while the colors are vibrant.

The panel supports 10 points of multi-touch, making it ideal for multi-tasking or games that take advantage of multiple simultaneous touch inputs. It responds instantaneously and accurately to our taps and gestures.

Because the panel is flat, the phone is easier to hold.

Around the panel are nearly symmetrical and super slim bezels. At the top bezel is the ultra-thin earpiece, and below it is the punch hole for the selfie camera.

The phone is equipped with top-firing and bottom-firing stereo speakers. Around the phone are microphones used for noise cancellation in calls and in audio recording.

The sound from the speakers has a high maximum volume that can be pushed up to 300 percent. The audio quality at 85 percent is clear with a decent sound stage. Any higher and the distortion creeps in. However, the ability to push it to 300 percent is useful, especially in noisy environments.

The microphones do a good job at picking up sounds from a meter away, and the call's noise cancellation is effective. We never had complaints from the other side of the line.

Cameras

At the back of the OPPO Reno15 5G are the 50MP f/1.8 main camera, a 50MP f/2.8 telephoto camera, and an 8MP f/2.2 116-degree ultra-wide camera with an LED flash.

The stock camera app includes Photo, Video, Portrait, Night, Pro, Hi-Res, Pano, Slo-Mo, Time-Lapse, Dual-View Video, Underwater, Sticker, and Doc Scanner.

The Pro mode allows for controls of ISO (50-3200), Shutter Speed (1/800-30 secs), EV (+-3), Focus, and White Balance.

The daylight images from the rear cameras produced good images with vibrant color and decent contrast. Where they differ is when using Zoom. The 1x, 2x, and 3.5x shots are noticeably sharper and more detailed. The shots from the 7x and 120x are slightly softer and less detailed.

The OPPO Reno15 5G's portrait mode captures images with high detail, tack-sharpness, vibrant color, and accurate skin tones. What impressed us was the edge detection and the near-natural bokeh that even simulates a slight swirl.

OPPO Reno15 5G close-up shots with the 1x and 3.5x cameras

The detail and sharpness are on point with the close-up shots from the 1x and 3.6x cameras. What impressed us is the white balance was able to get it right in a difficult indoor setting with multiple light sources with different colors.

Indoors, the rear cameras capture images with plenty of detail and vibrant color. What impressed us is that even when shooting against the light, we were able to retain some detail instead of blowing out completely. It is worth noting that there were more details and color retained from the 1x, 2x, 3.5x, and 7x cameras. The ultra-wide struggled with retaining the greens from the trees.

In low light, the Reno15 5G did a great job of containing the overexposure from areas with light sources. It retained a lot of the detail in those areas. The color and sharpness are good and are unaffected by the noise, even on the ultra-wide camera.

Generally, high-level cameras

In front is the 50MP f/2.0 selfie camera. The stock camera app allows the majority of the modes to use the Selfie camera.

Selfie Camera Samples

The daylight selfie from the Reno15 5G produces images with decent sharpness, vibrant color, deep contrast, and accurate skin tones. Our only concern is that we've seen smartphones in this price range that produced more detailed selfies. Aside from that, we were also impressed by its ability to retain detail and color even when shot against the light.

The Portrait mode is mostly the same as the normal mode daylight selfie, but what impressed us again is the edge detection and the near-natural bokeh.
OPPO Reno15 5G Selfie Indoors
OPPO Reno15 5G selfie Indoors

Indoors, the story is the same. The sharpness and detail are good, while color, contrast, and skin tones are on point. The selfie camera was able to retain some detail even when shot against the light, too.
OPPO Reno15 5G selfie lowlight
OPPO Reno15 5G selfie lowlight

In low light, the sharpness and detail were slightly affected by the noise. What impressed us is the color and skin tones remained accurate. The noise did affect some areas of the image.

Overall, the rear camera images and selfie images were good. The sharpness, detail, color, and skin tones were on point. Minimal noise, and even if there was noise, it didn't affect the image too much. Also, the camera's ability to retain detail and color in against-the-light situations is impressive.

Only use the 120x when you absolutely need it, but we wouldn't go out of our way to actively use it.

The rear and front-facing cameras are able to capture up to 4K at 60fps without stabilization. With stabilization, the rear cameras can still capture at 4K at 60 fps, but the selfie camera is locked at 1080p at 30fps. Both rear and front-facing cameras have a significant crop when shooting with stabilization.

The footage from both rear and front-facing cameras is sharp and detailed with vibrant color, too, but has noticeable noise buildup. The non-stabilized footage is noticeably shaky, but when stabilized, it is noticeably smoother.

OPPO Reno15 5G running Genshin Impact

When playing games such as Genshin Impact, it unlocked the "Medium" graphics settings as its default. It offers a good gaming experience with good graphics and smooth gameplay, even after playing for an extended period. The phone warmed up, but it never got alarmingly hot.
PCMark battery benchmark result and Battery usage
PCMark battery benchmark result and Battery usage

Inside the phone is a 6,500mAh battery. In our usual PCMark Battery benchmark, it lasted 12 hours and 15 minutes. This is significantly inconsistent with our actual usage.

We would unplug the phone from the charger at 8:00 AM and end the heavy workday at 10:00 PM. We would consistently get 50 percent or more battery left with 6 hours of on-screen time, even when running in Performance mode.

The OPPO Reno15 5G's battery effectively lasts two days in Performance mode.

It charges via USB-C with the included 80W SUPERVOOC flash charger in an hour or 60 minutes.
OPPO Reno15 5G's ColorOS 16
OPPO Reno15 5G's ColorOS 16

Running the show is Android 16-based ColorOS 16. The phone handles the majority of tasks, such as navigating through the OS, opening apps, and browsing the web and social media, without struggling. We almost didn't find a task that it struggled with.

The phone features an optical in-display fingerprint scanner and face unlock for enhanced biometric security. The initial setup and subsequent uses are quick, and it detects our biometrics instantaneously. It works even when your finger is sweaty.

The Face Unlock only struggles when the front camera is dirty. The screen brightens up when used in the dark. It detects the face and unlocks the phone super fast, too.

Regarding connectivity, we have the following: 5G, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.4, OTG, NFC, GPS, and dual nano SIM. It even has eSIM support, making it convenient for traveling abroad or if you simply are an eSIM user.

Wireless connections are usually stable for WiFi, and we get 4 to 5 out of 5 bars for telco mobile data connections.

ColorOS features the new Luminous Rendering Engine, Trinity Engine, and System-wide seamless or fluid animations. These all work together for smoother performance while adding glowing effects, realistic shadows, and dynamic icons. The home screen is now more flexible and more customizable.

OPPO also added several new photo and video AI tools, but our favorite AI feature is the AI Mind Space, where you can organize notes, photos, and voice memos.
OPPO's new Collage Pop-out feature in the stock Photos app
OPPO's new Collage Pop-out feature in the stock Photos app

Another new favorite is the Pop-out feature in the collage edit on the stock Photos app. Aside from offering possible layouts for Photos, if you shot your photos as "Motion Photos," the photo's animation will play, and the Pop-out feature detects the subject of the Photo and cuts it out so it can "pop out" in the collage. Fun stuff! Perfect for memorable photos.

We also can not forget one of our favorite features from the Reno14 and Reno13 Series. And that is the Touch to Share with iPhone. ColorOS 15 introduces a feature that allows for effortless file transfer with a single NFC tap between your Reno Phone and an iPhone or iPad. The iOS user just needs to install the O+ Connect app, and seamless transfer can now occur between operating systems. This bridges OPPO's devices to the Apple ecosystem. We hope that OPPO will further develop this.

Pros - Near flagship-level build and design, stunning 120Hz 1.5K AMOLED screen, 2-day battery on performance mode, stereo speakers, Great photo and video output, ColorOS 16 is much more refined, IP69 dust and water resistance
Cons - AI features have improved, but are still novel for most people, up to 1080p 30fps stabilized selfie video recording

Verdict

OPPO Reno15 5G web surfing
OPPO Reno15 5G web surfing

At the starting price of PHP 36,999, the Reno15 5G continues the upward trend of pricing seen in the past few generations. The great thing is that the performance, build, and features get even better with each generation.

Hardware-wise, the Reno15 5G has near flagship-level build material and design. The 120Hz 1.5K AMOLED is stunning, and the bezels are super thin and symmetrical.

The main selling point is its content creation features, such as the cameras and the AI editing tools. And in this regard, the images and video footage are high quality and what we would expect from more expensive smartphones. The AI editing tools allow for complex edits but in an easy-to-use manner. With minimal practice, users can quickly create quality photos and videos.

The Reno15 5G delivers near-flagship overall performance and design for a starting price of PHP 36,999. The processor, its

Collage Pop-out and AI Mindspace are a great addition ot the growing number of AI features that OPPO has been rolling out. Although some AI features feel novel, these ones are actually useful.

If users can look past the 1.5K resolution display, the 8MP resolution ultra-wide camera, and the soft digital 120x zoom, then the Reno15 5G is looking like a great pick for an overall package for its price.

Build/Design - 4.5
Multimedia Experience - 4.5
Cameras - 4.25
Performance - 4.25
Average - 4.37/5
