What to expect with Sony's upcoming phone?
Sony has officially confirmed that it will unveil the Xperia 1 VIII on May 13 at 11:00 AM Japan Standard Time. The company offered little additional detail ahead of the event, stating only that "when brilliance comes full circle, the next one is coming."
Alongside the smartphone, Sony is also expected to announce the A7r VI, its high-resolution full-frame mirrorless camera, as well as a new 100-400mm f/4.5 GM lens.
The Xperia 1 VIII is expected to introduce a redesigned form factor, featuring a square camera island and a body that is slightly wider and thicker than its predecessor, the Xperia 1 VII.
According to reports, the device may include a new telephoto sensor ranging between 1/3.0-inch and 1/2.0-inch in size, a 16mm ultrawide lens, a 24mm wide-angle camera, and an extended battery life of approximately two days.
Preliminary retail listings that surfaced ahead of the announcement suggest the Xperia 1 VIII could go on sale as early as June 26, with pricing listed at €1,868.99 in Germany and £1,728 in the United Kingdom.
