DJI Power 1000 Mini Review - Compact Power on-the-go for backups, campers and creators

We share our longer-term experience with the new DJI Power 1000 Mini compact 1kWh-class portable power station for home backups, campers, and creators.

Tiny and Mighty?

The new DJI Power 1000 Mini features a 1,008Wh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery, rated for up to 4,000 cycles of 0 to 100 percent. After the initial 4,000, DJI claims that it should retain up to 80 percent of its original capacity. It can supply 800W continuous output with a peak of 1,000W. It supports AC fast charging (0 to 80 percent in 80 minutes), 400W solar input via built-in Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), and strong integration with DJI's ecosystem via SDC port. It measures 314 x 212 x 216mm and weighs 11.5kg, and it can function as a UPS for home offices.

In the Philippines, the DJI Power 1000 Mini is priced at PHP 35,990.

Build/Design

The DJI Power 1000 Mini measures 314 x 212 x 216mm and weighs 11.5kg, and is made of robust matte-gray plastic construction. This makes it easy to store and carry around while offering a ton of functionality.

Display

The Power Mini includes a large dront display for key metrics such as charge percentage, power flows, and runtime estimates. It integrates seamlessly with the intuitive app for detailed monitoring.

The LED light bar is dimmable with an SOS mode. It is a lifesaver when in dark environments, as it illuminates the area and makes the ports and buttons more visible. It can be used as ambient lighting for longer shoots or for practical use in emergencies.

Performance

The DJI Power 1000 Mini has a 1,008Wh LiFePO4 battery with 800W continuous output (with a 1,000W peak), AC fast charging support, up to 400W solar input, and bidirectional USB-C/SDC ports. 

DJI claims that it can charge from 0 to 80 percent in 58 minutes and that it will retain up to 80 percent charge after 4,000 full charge cycles. This means that it will take roughly 10+ years before users can reach 80 percent capacity.

We traveled by car outside Metro Manila and parked. We decided to get some work done, so we plugged our devices into the Power Station, and in our experience, the DJI Power 1000 Mini powered our laptop (67W charger), tablets (20W charger), mobile phones (45W charger), camera, portable 30W electric fan, and our 120W Amaran Pano 120c for 6 hours straight. 

In one instance, two laptops were plugged into it. One via the retracting 100W USB-C cable and one 67W adapter plugged via AC mode. Other devices connected were a Canon Battery charger, a USB-C cable to charge the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P. 

The displayed the total output and the wattage output from the AC and USB-C ports. It can comfortably handle multiple devices on the field.

We can effectively work anywhere as long as we have access to an AC charger or the sun (as long as we have the Solar Panel and a compatible charging cable). 

Our favorite way to charge is via AC. There is a Fast Charge and Regular charging modes. You can also limit the amount of charge you want to achieve (0 percent to 80 percent to 100 percent) to conserve battery longevity. 

It takes under 80 minutes to charge the Power 1000 Mini via AC with the Fast charging turned on. And it takes under 3 hours to fully charge it without fast charging.

Using a 4000W solar panel via the DJI MC4 Solar Power Charging Cable will take 2.5 to 3 hours to fully charge the DJI Power 1000 Mini under sunny weather conditions. It can get slower depending on the weather. When comparing with the competition, it isn't the fastest in the category.

We weren't able to test charging via a car battery ourselves, but other reviewers have tested that it can power a full-sized fridge freezer during outages.

It features a UPS mode, allowing it to be used as an uninterruptible power supply. We plugged our laptop computer and electric fan in and unplugged the AC mid-session, and it was able to keep the laptop computer running long enough for us to shut it down and turn off the electric fan.

What impressed us the most was how quiet it operates and how it only consumes around 10W per hour on idle.

Overall, the DJI Power 1000 Mini is quiet and reliable, making it suitable for use at home, outdoors, and on the go. Its main constraint is the 800W continuous ceiling and its non-expandable battery. This means that we can't use heavier appliances and can't scale capacity.

Pros - Compact, Convenient, Easy to Use, Dimmable LED light bar, Fast 80-minute AC charging, DJI Home app controls and monitoring tools, 

Cons - Consistent fan humming when under load, warm air from the exhaust can be felt in an air-conditioned enclosed room

Verdict

The DJI Power 1000 Mini is one of the better options for back-up power on-the-go because of its compact size, high capacity, 800W continuous power ceiling (1000W peak), AC Fast charging, Solar Panel Charging, and Car battery charging support.

Its display allows users to see charging time, ETA, battery status, and more. The dimmable LED light bar is incredibly helpful, especially in the dark.

The included DJI Home allows users to monitor the activity and control the features of the DJI Power 1000 Mini remotely.

It can also be used as a UPS at home, too.

Our only concerns are minor: The fan emits a consistent hum, and warm air can be felt from the exhaust. The 800W continuous power ceiling could be limiting to higher power consumption users, but as a backup, it is more than enough.

Otherwise, this may be one of the best contenders for portable and feature-packed power stations available in the Philippines, especially for PHP 35,990.
