OPPO unveils ColorOS 17: refined Fluid design, faster performance, and built-in AI upgrades

Redesigned with AI built in?
At the company's annual developer conference, OPPO unveiled the latest update to its operating system, ColorOS 17. This update focuses on cleaner visuals, enhanced backend efficiency, and an expanded range of built-in AI features designed to simplify everyday tasks.
ColorOS 17 introduces a revamped Fluid design language that aims to provide a more streamlined and consistent experience when navigating menus and apps. This design incorporates transparent blur effects, floating navigation keys, custom lock screens, and expanded dynamic alert notifications.

The operating system has also undergone significant improvements in managing background applications and processor workloads. This enhancement is expected to lead to smarter resource allocation and smoother screen movements through optimized frame rendering. Additionally, a new memory handling architecture aims to improve the retention of background apps, while updated charging algorithms learn user habits to help protect battery life.
ColorOS 17 also expands its built-in security features and enhances compatibility with non-OPPO ecosystems. Key features include cross-platform transfer tools, encrypted personal files, app biometric locks, and automated privacy management.
The built-in AI capabilities are a major highlight of ColorOS 17, offering tools that operate directly on the phone without requiring external software. These tools include Photo Cleanup tools, document and note summaries, improved portrait processing, and a contextual sidebar.
Other notable AI features consist of AI Face Swapping detection, AI Call Anti-Fraud detection, and AI Cross-App Anti-Fraud capabilities.
OPPO announced that a phased public rollout of ColorOS 17 will begin in October 2026 for existing flagship models, with plans to expand to additional devices in the following months.
