The interface

The update file size is 3.27GB for the Find X9 and 3.6GB for the Find X9 Ultra. Before updating, make sure your device has at least 60% battery remaining. Better yet, keep it connected to a charger throughout the installation process to ensure a smooth upgrade.

To recap, ColorOS 17 is OPPO's next-generation operating system focused on faster performance, a refreshed visual experience, and more advanced on-device AI capabilities.

Debuting on the upcoming OPPO Find X10 Series, the update introduces the new Living Flow Design, featuring smoother animations, richer visual effects, and more responsive touch interactions. OPPO says the upgraded Laminar Flow Engine improves app launch stability by 55%, speeds up Gallery thumbnail loading by up to 50%, and allows over 25% more apps to remain active in the background for better multitasking.

The lockscreen

Beyond speed improvements, ColorOS 17 significantly expands OPPO's AI ecosystem with more capable, system-level automation tools. New features such as AI Mind Pilot can handle multi-step tasks like organizing files, creating photo albums, and planning trips, while the AI Photo Agent enables conversational photo editing and style transfers inspired by reference images. The update also includes AI Mind Space & Memory Collections, which automatically organizes saved content into contextual summaries, and AI Mind Suggest, which delivers proactive recommendations and reminders based on daily activities.

OPPO has also strengthened security and privacy in ColorOS 17. The new AI Call Guard can detect potential AI-generated voice and face-swap scams during calls in real time, while the upgraded Private Computing Cloud (PCC) uses end-to-end dual encryption and post-quantum security algorithms to better protect user data. Users can also review how their data is being utilized through a dedicated Transparency Report, providing detailed visibility into AI-related data access and processing activities.

Quick thoughts

At first glance, ColorOS 17 brings a fresher, more modern interface with noticeably smoother animations and faster overall responsiveness.

We also observed quicker image processing, with the wait time for photos in the Gallery to load in full quality dropping to under a second, compared to roughly 2 to 3 seconds on ColorOS 16.

That said, we wish OPPO had also brought the updated camera UI from the Find X10 Pro Max to the Find X9 Series.

Generally, we particularly like the larger clock display on the lock screen, which improves readability at a glance, as well as the translucent app drawer background that gives the interface a cleaner and more premium look. The redesigned notification shortcuts and quick access controls also make everyday interactions feel more intuitive and efficient.
