In celebration of Eduardo Castrillo's 50th year as a professional artist, Samsung Electronics together with Yuchengco Museum formally launched the Culture Connect: Castrillo @ 50 Instagram contest.

It's a follow-up to last year's Culture Explorer app that exhibits Filipino culture and heritage via way of VR (Virtual Reality) using Samsung's Gear VR. This year, Castrillo @ 50 Instagram will commemorate the masterpieces of national Filipino sculptor Eduardo Castrillo.
To refresh our mind, Eduardo Castrillo is the man behind the popular sculptures here and abroad. He is best known for hist work at figurative historical and religious monuments, abstract environmental works, and etc.
"Our collective love and passion for the Philippines and fellow countrymen are what keep us unified. Aside from encouraging the Filipinos to appreciate art, the contest also aims to provide an avenue for them to celebrate Philippine history and culture with technology we have today. We hope by doing such, we reinforce our countrymen's nationalism, as being a Filipino is something to be proud of," says Arlita Tayko-Narag, Head of Corporate Citizenship of Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation.
Castrillo's monuments, including Binhi ng mga Bayani located at Rizal Park, and People Power along EDSA, are cultural heritage pieces of our country. Commemorating some of the turning points of Philippine history, these monuments have become testimony to Castrillo's passion for excellent in form, technique, and spirit," shares Jeannie Javelosa, Curator of the Yuchengco Museum
The Castrillo @ 50 Instagram contest
In line with the Buwan ng Wika and Castrillo's 50th anniversary as an artist, there will be an Instagram contest for the whole month of August. It's a photography competition that aims to inspire Filipinos to release their inner nationalistic pride by expressing it via Social Media.

To join the contest, all you need to do is post a photo of any select public art monuments on Instagram, express what it means to you as a Filipino, and tag @CastrilloCultureConnect with the following hashtags #SamsungCultureConnect #Castrillo50 on Instagram.
There will be up to 3 entries only per person that may be submitted under professional or open category. The first place winners per categories will win a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and a Gear VR. The winning photos will also be features on Culture Explorer app.
The winning entries will be announced online on September 14 and will be awarded on October 13, 2016.
