SuperD D1 Unboxing And First Impressions - Legit 3D Experience Even Without VR Glasses
Say hello to SuperD D1, the 3D ready smartphone!

As a refresher, the SuperD D1 is 3D ready even without the use of VR headsets or 3D glasses. It has a special type of 5.5 inch screen that's 3D ready. This handset is also equipped with an intelligent type of secondary 2 MP eye tracking camera in front and SuperD dedicated 3D + VR graphics card to make that technology possible.

Moving forward, we had a quick chance yesterday to unbox the device and check it out. So, here's what we think about it.

Unboxing / Accessories

MyPhone branding is present!
MyPhone branding is present!

Unsurprisingly, the MyPhone branding was present in the SuperD D1 box even if they're just being distributed by the pioneer local brand. It is neatly packaged that resembles some higher-end handsets we unboxed before.

Upon opening the package, customers will be greeted by a 2A USB wall charger, USB to micro USB cables, and SIM ejector tool. If you are one of the 1st 1,000 to get this phone, you'll get a FREE SuperD VR ZERO headgear worth PHP 1K.

The general package is decent, but adding other freebies like earphones w/ mic and TPU clear case would have made it nicer.

Build Quality / Design

Mostly metal all over!
Mostly metal all over!

It is nice to see that SuperD opted to use a mostly metal unibody frame here w/ Gorilla Glass 2.5D curved glass on top. There's proper slight chamfered edges and the phone feels curvy all over.
The materials used feels decent and tough enough for daily use.
We also liked their inclusion of Gorilla Glass 3 to prevent minor scratches in its screen. It isn't just as solid compared with other higher-end metal clad handsets, but again, this is decent enough.

Going to the design, we already saw this type of aesthetics from different smartphones before like the Huawei G8. We're fine with it in general even if isn't really the most stunning looking device at this price. The frame is slim and we liked its curves. The only eyesore here is the thick black border bezel in its screen.

Ergonomically, the phone is fantastic to hold due to its proper arching back, chamfered edges, and corner curves. The phone isn't heavy as well and all its buttons / ports placements are on standard locations.

Initial findings

1. The screen quality is nice, the thick black border bezels isn't an eye candy.
2. The main phone specs used here are mostly dated and found on lower priced devices.
3. The cameras are nice on first look. The selfie has wide angle lens. We need to check it out deeper.
4. 3D even without 3D glasses really works and it is a cool type of technology. You'll appreciate it once you have the device. However, 3D contents aren't abundant yet. Yes, even if they have their own SuperD VR store.
5. Sensors are fine, OTG support is present, there's gyroscope, and the free 3D headset is comfortable enough to wear.

As of the moment

This is a handset that you need to have before to appreciate. The VR Glasses free 3D experience really works and very entertaining. However, we think that its design and specs is slightly dated. The suggested retail price is also higher than expected.

Fortunately, there's a chance that this device is more than just the specs. Let's hope! So stay tuned for our full review.

Update and good news: This handset will go on retail at Lazada Philippines tom for PHP 10K instead of PHP 12K!
