Nokia's current most affordable smartphone in the Philippines is the Nokia 3, a solidly crafted handset with the promise of good performance for the price.

In particular, the Nokia claims that the Nokia 3 has the famed sturdy build of the company and capable overall specs even for the low asking price of just PHP 6,990.

Now, its time to check if this is the budget Nokia smartphone that the masses want?

Is this phone still relevant today even if its a bit old already?

Let's see!

Nokia's packaging for this handset is standard. It has the usual 1A USB wall charger, USB to micro USB data / charging cable, earphones w/ mic, SIM ejector tool, and paper documentation.
Sturdy build for the price!

Staying true to its promise, the Nokia 3's build is simply phenomenal for the price! The frame is made out of sturdy metal aluminum material and the plastic backplate features a nice matte like finish. The 5-inch screen has a layer of unspecified version of Gorilla Glass protection.

Design is also very sleek for the price. It is actually a head turner! The paint finish is clean, screen bezels are surprisingly slim, and the phone in general really looks good for its low asking price!

Sturdy and sexy for the price!

The phone feels good to hold in general too. Button and ports are on standard location too. Moreover, it has a dedicated dual SIM and microSD card slots. NICE!

The screen is decent! The 5-inch HD IPS panel that Nokia used here has average sharpness, but good in colors. It's vivid and has nice viewing angles. Brightness could be better though.
Not that high AnTuTu score
Not that high AnTuTu score

Inside, the specs is far from the most powerful at this price, but it is still considered as acceptable. The Nokia 3 boasts MediaTek's 64-bit MT6737 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. It's paired w/ Mali-T720 graphics and 2GB RAM.

That setup is good enough to load most of the basic social media applications properly. However, due to its small RAM, this phone is not designed for heavy usage and multitasking.

The Mali-T720 GPU can run some of the heavy games, but do not expect it to load those games in high settings. For example, it was able to run NBA 2K17 at its lowest settings only.

Storage-wise, it has 16GB storage. It would have been better if its at 32GB, but at least storage is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

Battery at 2,650mAh could pass as big for the small screen size and resolution of this phone. In our mini test, it was able to last for 8 hours on our average use. However, charging time is quite slow at a little over 3 hours.
Capable 8MP shooter
Capable 8MP shooter

Main camera at 8MP is quite good! Camera UI is simple to use and it even has auto HDR. Focus is fast and shutter speed is decent. It can focus nearly on subjects too! Daylight shots are quite punchy in details and colors. We weren't just able to fully test its capabilities (especially in lowlight).

The selfie shooter at 8MP f/2.0 even has autofocus too! Decent!

The rest of the features
The Nokia 3 has WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, LTE, OTG, NFC, GPS, A-GPS, and dual SIM slots. We also like that its sensors are almost complete. It has accelerometer, light, orientation, proximity, gyroscope, sound, and magnetic sensors. This phone has no fingerprint scanner though.

It boots w/ a near stock version of Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.

Unfortunately, our time w/ the Nokia 3 is not enough a full review. But, even w/ our short time with it, we can are confident to say that this is a pretty GOOD phone for the price!

Yes, we know the processor they used could have been better and the RAM size should have been bigger.

But fortunately, its craftsmanship is fantastic and its cameras are decent for the price.

Bonus: The Nokia 3 will be updated to Android Oreo OS next year.
