Cherry Mobile's latest surprise before the year ends is the Omega HD3, a follow-up to the highly acclaimed Omega HD 2.0 that was priced at 8,999 Pesos before. To our surprise, CM changed its direction with the Omega HD3 by changing its price range dramatically at just 2,999 Pesos and its smartphone class going to the entry level division. Is that a good thing?

Omega HD3 textured back

The Cherry Mobile Omega HD3 comes with the same design perspective of the Flare 4 line. It goes with a with a sexy rounded metal frame to support the phone and faux leather back cover. It feels tough enough in general and looks stylish at the same even when you compare it with other more expensive devices.

In the right side of the phone you'll find the power button together with the volume rocker

The button placements is also on point as they're not awkward to locate and press and almost everything in this phone is made with the right purpose and function in mind.

So far my only complain with the design is the slightly protruding camera at the back that may attract scratches if you did not take care of your phone properly. Some may nitpick too about the screen as the bezels aren't that slim. For the price, there's it's hard to complain.

What's different against Omega HD 2.0 in terms of specs?

Against the pricier second generation of Omega HD, the Omega HD3 now has bigger ROM at 8 GB against 4 GB, better build as this has metal frame compared with plastic and has a more updated Android version at 5.1 Lollipop.

The battery capacity on the other hand is now 100 mAh smaller at just 2,000 mAh, the camera is down to 8 MP as well, the selfie cam remains the same at 2 MP and the processor changed from the dated MT6589 to the power efficient Spreadtrum 7731 quad core processor.

As a whole, those changes doesn't remove the fact that the Omega HD3 is 6,000 Pesos more affordable against the older Omega HD 2.0, and that's a great thing!

As of the moment

The Omega HD3 is a good example of a nice side grade with a huge price cut! As a result, we get to see one of the most affordable Android 5.1 Lollipop handset to boast this type of best in class configuration under 3,000 Pesos. That makes it possibly the best phone to get under 3000 Pesos aside from My27 and Cherry's very own Touch HD.
