Smartphones with dual cameras setups are the new big thing in the world of mobile photography today. In contrary to what some believe, this feature is not gimmicky because its designed to address the limitation of having a small camera sensor on smartphones.

As a result, the top mobile brands in the world are venturing into this type of setup today. However, they have different strengths and implementations. In particular, there are 3 main dual camera setup right now. The one found with Apple's iPhone 7 Plus, Huawei P9 / P9 Plus, and LG G5 / V20.

The setup of Apple iPhone 7 Plus consist of two 12 MP lenses. One of them is a bright type of 12 MP f/1.8 sensor with OIS (optical image stabilization) and another 12 MP sensor that boast the "telephoto" lens for up to 2x optical zoom and wide angle.

Basically, what this setup can do is the portrait mode for creating "DSLR" like bokeh / blur and create up to 2x lossless zoom.

Huawei P9 / P9 Plus

On the other hand, Huawei's P9 and P9 Plus is equipped with a 12 MP monochrome sensor for black and white shots. It's other sensor is a 12 MP RGB sensor that's responsible of taking color shots. Combine them together and they'll take brighter and more detailed images.

It also has a "wide aperture" mode that allows you to adjust the f stops from f/0.95 to f/16 of your subject via software even after taking the still. As a result, it has a DSLR-like bokeh w/ super shallow depth of field. Then it has a monochrome mode that takes the truest black and white shots.

All of that is on top of its intensive camera software with tons of effects, full manual controls, and RAW image support.

Last of the popular dual camera implementations came from LG Electronics with their LG G5 and V20. It has a main 16 MP f/1.8 camera w/ Hybrid AF and OIS for taking regular sharp images. Then it has a secondary 8 MP f/2.4 sensor w/ 135 degrees wide angle lens.

Basically, you'll get two modes. The normal mode for regular portrait shots and the wide angle mode with Go Pro like results that's perfect for outdoor shots.
