Build Quality / Design

Tough enough?
Tough enough?

The OPPO A71 is made out of plastic, but it is a sturdy type of silver nano coated plastic.

Fairly durable body!

The body feels durable enough and not that prone to hairline scratches. But, it is prone to fingerprint smudges even if it has a matte like paint finish. The 5.2 inch display has scratch resistance. In addition, there's a pre-installed screen guard to further protect the screen from unwanted light damages.

Aesthetically, this is the first OPPO smartphone we know to sport this sleeker and curvier back plate w/ hidden antenna bands.

The sleekest affordable OPPO yet!

We also like the fact that it is compact and slim at 7.6 mm. The main camera is just slightly when the free silicon case is not in use. The matte black paint finish also ranks among the nicest out there on an affordable phone.

Ports and buttons are on standard and easy to reach placements too. We enjoyed the fact that it has triple slots, 2 for nano SIMs and for 1 micro SD card.

The handset is also comfortable to hold as it is lightweight at 137 grams and has no sharp edges. My gripe is it is slippery to hold without the case.

To protect your phone further and enjoy better grip, use the improved silicon case.

Initial Findings

1. Build is okay, but not the best at this price. Style is GRAND. The 5.2 inch is big enough for most, but could be small for some. It has HD resolution too.
2. Specs is one of the highest for a mainstream sub PHP 10K phone. It's designed to rival the great Huawei GR3 2017 and Samsung Galaxy J7 Core. Battery capacity is enough at 3,000 mAh.
3. OS is better than ever. It runs w/ Android 7.1 Nougat OS w/ the new Color OS 3.1. Now, the shortcut panel can be accessed by swiping up. It also now has the new OPPO share feature that works like SHAREit app.
4. Cameras are the same w/ its OPPO A39 predecessor, but the software is now better than ever. It now has 2x digital zoom and selfie blur. Camera results are decent by far. Have a look at our first camera samples below.
5. As expected, OPPO nearly completed the sensors included. It even has gyrsocope for AR and VR apps. In addition, it has OTG for USB OTG devices. However, it has no light sensor and fingerprint scanner.

As of the moment

At PHP 8,990, this is a pretty interesting deal so far. We like that its style is great, it shoots good photos, and performance is quite fast. OPPO even introduced new Color OS 3.1 skin on top of Android 7.1 OS w/ new nifty features.

The 16 GB storage isn't that big, but it can be expanded thru a dedicated micro SD card slot.

So far, not bad!
