Bixby (Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimbs!) is Samsung's take on the virtual assistant field. Now joining Siri, Cortana and the Google Assistant, Bixby will provide you with a smarter way of interacting with your phone. Countries like the U.K, Australia, Canada, South Africa and the Philippines will be able to enjoy a faster and better way to get things done.

At the moment, Bixby is only available in U.S English and Korean. You can program a feature called Quick Commands wherein you can make a phrase trigger a chain of commands. For example, you can use "goodnight" to turn on silent mode, set an alarm and turn a blue light filter. That is a pretty nifty and time efficient trick.

Bixby is also designed to recognize the way you actually speak. It will be able to deduct what you mean by the way you make a request, issue a command and ask a question. Overtime, Bixby will be learning from your data and habits to provide a quicker more efficient assistance.

Samsung wants to emphasize that Bixby is an intelligent interface and not an app. This means that if an app becomes Bixby enabled then Bixby can use all the functions of that app whether vua voice, touch or type. In addition to that, Bixby can also easily access your settings so that you can issue a command to change them on the fly.

Injong Rhee, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D, Software and Services of the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics states this about Bixby:

Now millions of customers worldwide have access to a new and intelligent way of interacting with their phone. The expansion of Bixby’s voice capabilities is an initial step in the continued rollout of Bixby functionality. In the future, Bixby will have the learning power to offer more intelligent and personalized interactions and seamless connections across more devices.

Samsung plans to expand Bixby's reach with more countries, languages, features and third-party app capabilities. This will make interactions between Bixby and the user easier, more efficient and seamless.

They also plan to make Bixby readily available in their future flagships. Future flagships plus the S8 and S8+ can activate Bixby by pressing the Bixby button. After that, interaction can be as easy as saying "Hello Bixby".
