Build Quality/Design

Beautiful colored reflection

Priced at PHP 49,990, the OPPO Find X at first glance looks as premium as it gets with a metal frame and curved glass on both sides. It is made out of mostly curved glass material. In front, it has Gorilla Glass protection.

The camera is hidden and is called the "stealth 3D camera" feature. Once the camera is needed, the top part pops up and when it is done, it pops down to hide itself again.

The motorized pop-up mechanism is rated for more than 300,000 times which OPPO says attests to its durability. But because of the moving parts there had to be compromises and this was made obvious by the YouTube video that shows how the Find X reacts to an extreme bend test.

Not to mention the fact that this phone isn't IP rated which adds the question of how will it survive large solid or liquid particles that get into the gaps in between the mechanism.

But then again, the Find X isn't the phone you get for durability, you get it for the X-factor the unique and futuristic design it brings. So we suggest you look else where if you want the most enduring of phones and get this if you want to pay to play.

The best looking flagship of 2018?

Initial findings

Big screen, almost bezel-less
Big screen, almost bezel-less

1. The OPPO Find X is one of the most beautiful phones out there today and it is also one of the more unique but interesting ones in recent memory aside from the Vivo NEX S. Both because of their audacity to push the boundaries of hardware design.

The display is a 6.4-inch Curved Super AMOLED screen w/ FHD+ 2340 x 1080 resolution and Gorilla Glass protection at 403 ppi. The maximum brightness is good enough for the display to readable even under direct sunlight. It has a 93.8 percent screen-to-body ratio and is one of the few phones with the least bezels with no notch.

2. It is running on the 2.8GHz 64-bit Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor, Adreno 630, 8GB and 256GB. This makes this a powerhouse in terms of specs and storage.

The large 3,730mAh battery is suppose to last more than a full day's worth of usage and will charge from 0 to 100 within an hour with the new VOOC charging from OPPO.

3. The phone is on Android 8.1 Oreo with the latest ColorOS 5.1. OPPO says that this version of ColorOS is the most integrated with Google services so this adds to the over all experience when you depend on Google services.

The look has been updated and it is already apparent that it draws inspiration from Google's current design language but still maintaining the ColorOS identity.

4. The rear camera is a 16MP f/2.0 Sony IMX519 + 20MP f/2.0 Sony IMX376 while the selfie camera is a 25MP f/2.0 Sony IMX576. The camera app has the standard photo, portrait, square, panorama, sticker, slow-mo, time-lapse and manual mode. As mentioned earlier it is being branded as the stealth camera as it is hidden when not in use.

5. The OPPO Find X has no fingerprint scanner, wireless charging, and 3.5 mm headphone jack. It supports OTG and it has a light sensor, a proximity sensor, gyroscope and a single speaker at the bottom.

As of the moment

The OPPO Find X is a premium priced phone with flagship performing specs and storage. In terms of design, it even looks like the best of 2018 yet.

Though there are concerns with durability, it is clear that you don't get this for durability but of bragging rights and the unique satisfaction of having one of the thinnest bezels out there and a pop-up mechanism.
