Xiaomi is one of the more aggressive brands in terms of shaking the smartphone world with their low prices and smart marketing strategies. Now, their new niche is to provide a smartphone with an in-display fingerprint scanner that would be responsive anywhere on the screen.

Lin Bin, Xiaomi's CEO and co-founder, showcased the prototype on a video wherein they showed the fingerprint scanner in action. After a brief setup, the device was quickly unlocked in just a single tap. In addition, there was a demonstration where the user is not even looking on the device.

According to Lin Bin, the area for unlocking the device measures at 50 x 25mm. This is five times larger than the current in-display fingerprint scanning area and 15 times bigger than traditional fingerprint scanners. In addition to that, the video shows how reliable and fast the scanner is.

Xiaomi hints that if the fan reception for the new technology is great, they will be considering putting it on their future devices. The in-display fingerprint scanner was first introduced by Vivo as a concept and was later introduced on their devices.

Now, Xiaomi is taking that technology and looks to improve upon it.
