Reuters sources are two anonymous people familiar with Apple's inner workings. If true, Apple will not use Intel chips anymore. Apple is not in good terms with Qualcomm as well.
Apple-designed modems soon?
The sources revealed that Apple has shifted engineering staff who works on modem technology in the supply chain division to the in-house hardware technology division. It represents that Apple is readying to make its own modems.
Johny Srouji, Apple's senior VP for hardware tech also took over the company's modem design efforts in January.
When you're Apple, everything has to be good, said Linley Gwennap, president of chip industry research firm The Linley Group. There's no room for some substandard component in that phone.
It could be a good move for Apple as Intel modems aren't as good as the chips made by Qualcomm and Huawei.
It would also be nice if Apple will have their own Apple-designed 5G modems in the near future.
However, they have a lot of catching up to do in the mobile 5G race.
Will they be successful? Only time will tell.
Let's see!
