Here are what Thunderbolt 3 brings to USB4

The Thunderbolt 3 protocol gives USB4 data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps, display interfaces and better power delivery. The full specs for USB4 will be announced in the middle of 2019. Over 50 companies are participating in the final phase of its development. It is important to note that although it is based on Thunderbolt 3 protocols their functionality will still differ.

The inclusion of Thunderbolt protocol to USB4 brings Thunderbolt 3 to mainstream PC platforms and enables different companies to easily utilize its support in their products. Native support for Thunderbolt 3 will be introduced with Intel's Ice Lake processors.

Thunderbolt 3 is a big deal. It has up to 4 times the speed of the fastest USB connection. USB 3.1 speeds go up to 10 Gbps while 3.0 has a limit of 5 Gbps. Thunderbolt 3 can up to 40 Gbps. This allows peripherals such as the external GPU adapter Razer Core to work as it can process more data in less time. It also has the ability to transmit video via DisplayPort 1.2. You can use it to connect two 4K monitors at once in a single wire.

This shows what USB4 might have in store for us. It can be the most versatile USB connection to date.
