Sony launches a GIANT 16K Crystal LED TV screen in Japan
16K Crystal LED television (OMG!)

This television that will go on show in Japan, is measured at 63 ft. by 17 ft. (19.2 m by 5.4 m). It s display has four times as many horizontal pixels as a 4K television and eight times that of a regular 1080p high definition TV, meaning it can show images in far more detail than normal.

This television will be installed at a new research center built for Shiseido, a famous brand of Japanese cosmetics, in Yokohama, Tokyo, Japan. It is said to stretch between the first and second floors because of how huge it is.

We’re moving slowly towards 8K TVs at the end of the decade and who knows how long it will take to get beyond that, so 16K is likely to be limited to the corporate world for the time being, commented David Mercer from the consultancy Strategy Analytics.

Sony announced this new development during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show, which is currently being held in Las Vegas. The Japanese company calls this technology as the ‘Crystal LED’ and it is said that Samsung is also experimenting with the format.

One expert said it would likely take decades for 16K tech to filter down to consumer products. But reports say that Sony is working on similar lower-resolution Crystal LED displays for office, home, cinema, and theme park use.

Who's excited?
