Globe is the first to offer 5G in Southeast Asia and in the Philippines. This makes it the third telecommunications company to offer 5G in Asia after Japan and Korea.

Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu revealed that the Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G will enable the company to connect more Filipinos at home given the external challenges of rolling out fiber optic cables in the country. The arrival of 5G has caused excitement in the global world of telecommunications. Today, we made a crucial step in fulfilling our goal of connecting more Filipino homes, and our vision of bringing first-world Internet to the Philippines, Cu added.

Dubbed as the Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G the local telco giant offers wireless plans with up to 100 Mbps speeds. It is way faster than the up to 20 Mbps of the previous 4G plans.

Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G starts plan 1888 for 20 Mbps, 2499 for 50 Mbps, and 2899 for 100 Mbps. Globe also confirmed that its plans will come massive data cap of 2TB per month or over 60GB per day for the plans.

The company's 5G device is powered by Huawei, the world's largest maker of telecommunications equipment.

Huawei is currently under fire due to the spying allegations by the US government, which the company denies.

But, Globe said they hired independent first to ensure that its security protocols are up to date.

Recently, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity Allan Cabanlong also said there was no hard evidences yet that Huawei uses its products to conduct illegal cyber activities.

The service is initially available in select areas of Pasig, Bulacan, and Cavite. This reveal is in line with the company's plan to launch 5G in the Philippines in Q2 2019.

It makes use of fixed location wireless radios instead of fiber optic cables. It enables the company go over the circuitous approval process of deploying a fiber optic cable for faster rollouts. 

According to the company, this is just the start. Globe shared that 5G has faster deployment by 8 months versus 4G. Previously, Globe said that they aim to provide 5G in the whole country in the near future.

Globe continued and said that they will offer even faster speeds of in the future.

To recall, PH consumers are some of the world's top social media users. Internet users here are often frustrated with the slow and unreliable internet connection.

Ookla's May 2019 Speedtest Global Index showed that the Philippines ranks 107th among 178 countries in terms of fixed broadband speed at 19.55 megabits per second (Mbps) versus the global average of 59.6 Mbps. PH ranks 107th (among 140 countries) in terms of mobile internet speed at 15.10 Mbps, nearly half of the 27.22 Mbps global average.

With the launch of 5G, we can hope for better and more stable internet soon.

5G tech is expected to power Internet of Things (IoT) intelligent homes, make internet speedier for enhanced entertainment, gaming, security systems, and more.
