Here comes a new challenger!

Build/Design - Realme 3 Pro has a 3D-like polycarbonate plastic body with gradient colors. The Xiaomi Mi A3 has a curvy glasstic back with gradient colors as well. Both phones have Gorilla Glass 5 protection upfront.

Realme 3 Pro

In the looks department, both phones look good with the realme 3 Pro sporting a glossy finish while the Xiaomi Mi A3 has a glass-like finish that oozes style.

Display - Realme 3 Pro has a 6.3-inch IPS screen with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It also has an FHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 at 403 ppi.

Xiaomi Mi A3, on the other hand, has a 6.08-inch 2.5D curved AMOLED screen with 1560 x 720 HD+ resolution at 283 ppi. It also has Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

The realme 3 Pro takes the lead here with a bigger FHD+ screen.

Specs - For performance, realme 3 Pro comes with the 10nm 2.2GHz Snapdragon 710 octa-core processor, Adreno 616 GPU, up to 6GB of RAM with up to 128GB of expandable storage and a 4,045mAh battery with 20W VOOC 3.0 flash charging.

Xiaomi Mi A3 has a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 665 AIE octa-core processor and Adreno 610 GPU, 4 LPDDR4X RAM with up to 128GB UFS 2.1 expandable storage, and a huge 4,030mAh battery with 18W fast charging.

In terms of processor speeds, my pick is realme 3 Pro's 10nm Snapdragon 710 with Adreno 616 GPU. Mi A3 is no slouch either though but realme 3 Pro is faster overall.

Both come with at least 4GB RAM. Realme 3 Pro has an option for the 6GB RAM/128GB if you can spend up to 15K. One advantage of the Xiaomi Mi A3 is that its storage is UFS 2.1 which is faster.

In terms of battery and charging technology, realme 3 Pro takes the lead with a slightly bigger battery.

The kicker here is its VOOC 3.0 flash charging technology.

Yes, 20W VOOC 3.0 flash charging through micro USB is still better in my books compared to 18W fast charging via USB-C.

Both run Android 9.0 Pie but Mi A3 is an Android One device which guarantees up to 2 years of major OS upgrades.

Cameras - The realme 3 Pro is equipped with 16MP f/1.7 Sony IMX519 + 5MP f/2.4 sensors. It also has Dual Pixel and LED flash. It also has a 25MP f/2.0 sensor for selfies with AI Face Beauty.

Xiaomi Mi A3 has a triple camera setup with 48MP f/1.79 Sony IMX586 main sensor with EIS + 8MP f/2.2 w/ 118-degree ultra wide-angle sensor + 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor with LED flash. It also has a 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera.

Xiaomi Mi A3 shows that its focus with cameras as it takes the lead here. A triple camera setup with a 48MP Sony IMX586 main sensor, EIS, ultra wide-angle sensor and a 32MP selfie camera shows a more complete package.

Realme 3 Pro is still great with Dual Pixel technology and a formidable 25MP selfie camera as well.

Other features - Xiaomi Mi A3 has an In-Display fingerprint sensor, IR Blaster and a USB-C port. Realme 3 Pro has a traditional fingerprint sensor, face unlock and 700MHz 4G LTE. Both sport dual-band WiFi.

Realme 3 Pro advantages - Larger display with FHD+ resolution, a slightly faster chip,
slightly larger battery capacity, faster charging
Xiaomi Mi A3 advantages More versatile triple-cam with 48MP main sensor, bigger selfie camera, In-Display fingerprint sensor, Android One, the more affordable price tag

Our thoughts

In terms of the overall package, both phones are great. It just depends on your needs.

Based on its specs, the realme 3 Pro could be the better overall gaming device with faster-charging speed.

While realme 3 Pro is no slough in photography, Mi A3 could be the better phone if you want a camera-focused device since it has the more versatile triple-camera setup and a larger 32MP selfie shooter.
