To put this into the picture, we can look into Vivo's journey through the last couple of years. In 2012, Vivo X1 was introduced as, at the time, the world's thinnest smartphone at 6.65mm. It was also one of the firsts to have a dedicated HiFi audio chip with the Cirrus Logic CS4398 digital-analog converter and CS8422 sample rate converter.

Then with Vivo X5 Max at 4.75mm thin, the company further cemented itself in providing the thinnest smartphones. In 2017, the Vivo V7+ came out with the first 24MP front camera lens. In 2018, it introduced the Vivo X20 Plus UD with the first front fingerprint scanning sensor under its 6.43-inch FHD+ screen.

At MWC Barcelona, the company introduced the APEX concept smartphone as the first notch-free and bezel-less smartphone with a 98 percent screen-to-body ratio with an elevating 8MP pop-up selfie camera.

Then four months after that, the concept phone became a reality as Vivo launched the NEX with a pop-up selfie camera and a notch-free fullscreen screen. It also sported some other new features like the half-screen in-display fingerprint scanner and AI app optimization.

MWC Shanghai saw Vivo launched Time of Flight which is a 3D sensing technology that detects the time it takes for light return to the sensor. Then it will accurately map objects at up to three meters in front of it.

Now, during MWC 2019 in Shanghai, Vivo introduced APEX 2019, the company's first-ever 5G smartphone which sports a Super Unibody Design that aims to eliminate the bezels, notch, physical button, ports, and speakers. It also has a full-display fingerprint scanner.

Additional new features include Touch Sense technology, a MagPort for battery charging and data transfer, and Body SoundCasting that turns the FullView display into a speaker.
