Huawei’s NEXT-IMAGE Awards announces winners from over half a million photo entries
The HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE awards are a wide-scale program aimed at redefining photography and global visual culture. The competition has categories, Hello, Life!, Faces, and Storyboard. For this year, Huawei has added #Emotion Tag, Going the Distance, and Life Now, to further challenge phone photography enthusiasts to go beyond their limits. NEXT-IMAGE also serves as a platform to showcase the photography capabilities of Huawei smartphones.
For the third iteration of the NEXT-IMAGE awards, Huawei
was able to gather
more than 520,000 photos from professional and amateur photographers from across 150 countries since the competition called for entries March this year.
And from this pool of entries, Huawei has just announced photographer Federici Stefano as the Grand Prize Winner. Apart from bagging the top award, Stefano was also hailed Best-in-Category Award winner for Faces.
The countries that came on top include the Philippines, China, Malaysia, Italy, Mexico, and Columbia. A panel of world-class photographers, curators, and visual artists judged the entries.

One of our own,
Jaylord Plaza with his ‘The Frame of the Past’ entry taken by a Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS, won the Going the Distance Category. Commenting on Plaza’s work was legendary Magnum photographer Steve McCurry.
McCurry shared that the photo was a tasteful representation of new and different.
The Grand Prize winner receives USD 20,000, the latest HUAWEI P30 Pro, an opportunity to attend the HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE Awards ceremony, and a winner’s medal or certificate. Meanwhile, the winners in the six categories will each receive USD 6,000, a Huawei P30 Pro, a medal or certificate, and an opportunity to attend the awards ceremony. Each of the 50 runners-up gets a Huawei P30 Pro.

The 2019 HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE Awards ceremony will
be held at Paris Photo in Grand Palais starting November 7 to 10 2019.
The winning works will be showcased in the Paris Photo exhibition, while
some will be brought to the Palace Museum in Beijing, China for the public to view.
Huawei will also hold a series of roadshows, workshops, and exhibits to build excitement for the awards ceremony.
