A Microsoft device running on Android!

The US tech giant has announced the Surface Duo, a device with foldable dual-screen ala Surface Neo laptop, but pocketable.

Microsoft's surprise device!

The Surface Duo highlights two 5.6-inch screens that can rotate 360 degrees and can be fully unfolded into an 8.3-inch tablet.

Wired reported that it is powered by Qualcomm's 7nm Snapdragon 855 processor with Adreno 640 GPU.

On the software part, it runs a heavily-skinned looking version of Android. Since it is an Android device, it has Google Play to download a LOT of Android-based applications.

Microsoft and Google designed this to be a multitasking focused machine. Each screen can run two apps at once. On landscape mode, the second display could be used as a keyboard or a game controller.

Other than those, details are scarce. The rest of the missing details are unknown for now.

While this is just an early preview, this is big. It is the first time since the death of Windows phone back in 2017 that Microsoft has announced its own phone.

The device won't be out until the holiday in 2020. Likely, Microsoft wants to give developers time to develop apps for this new hardware.

I won't be surprised if there will be changes once this phone/tablet is out in the market next year.
