Samsung Galaxy A80 back design

Samsung Galaxy A80 has a premium-looking glass and metal body. It is hefty and makes you feel that you are holding a premium yet sturdy device. The back is made out of two panels. The top smaller panel moves up so that the triple cameras can rotate to face forward.

OPPO Reno2 back design

OPPO Reno2 has a 3D curved glass back with Gorilla Glass 5, a curved metal frame with a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 6 protecting the screen.

In the looks department, they both look great. The Galaxy A80 gets some points due to its unique flipping camera system. Both have no notch to speak of since one has a pop-up camera sensor while the other has the aforementioned flip camera.

OPPO Reno2 screen

OPPO Reno2 has a 6.55-inch 2.5D curved Dynamic AMOLED screen with 2400 x 1080 FHD+ resolution at 402 ppi.

Galaxy A80 has a slightly taller screen. The Reno2 has a higher pixel density so the images come out a bit sharper. Both have FHD+ resolution.

Both screens have great color reproduction due to both devices having AMOLED screens.

But, the Reno2 has the more advanced Dynamic AMOLED panel.

Specs - For performance, Samsung Galaxy A80 has a 2.2GHz 64-bit Snapdragon 730 octa-core processor, Adreno 618 GPU, 8GB of RAM with 128GB storage, and a 3,700mAh battery with 25W Super Fast Charging.OPPO Reno2 has a gaming-focused 2.2GHz 64-bit Snapdragon 730G AIE octa-core processor, Adreno 618 GPU, 8GB RAM with 256GB expandable storage, and a 4,000mAh with VOOC 3.0 flash charge.

In terms of CPU and GPU, both devices sport the same SoC with Reno2's 730G having a few quality of life improvement. Both devices also have 8GB of RAM.

However, the Reno2 has a bigger and faster UFS 2.1 storage. It also has a bigger battery as well. Both also have dual-band WiFis but the Reno2 has a 700Hz 4G LTE.

Cameras - The Samsung Galaxy A80 is equipped with a triple camera setup consisting of a 48MP f/2.0 + 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle lens + 3D depth sensor w/ AF and LED flash. It also serves as selfie cameras it also has a triple camera setup for that.

OPPO Reno2 quad cameras

OPPO Reno2 has a quad-camera setup with a combo of 48MP f/1.7 Sony IMX586 w/ PDAF, CAF, OIS, EIS + 13MP 5x Hybrid Optical Zoom + 8MP 116-degree ultra wide-angle  + 2MP mono w/ dual-tone LED flash. It has a 16MP f/2.0 sensor with an LED flash for selfies.

In terms of main camera specs, OPPO Reno2 takes the lead with a more complete quad-camera system. The main 48MP Sony IMX586 comes with OIS and EIS as well which is not found in the Galaxy A80.

It even has the Ultra Dark Mode tech that can let you capture images even in close to pitch-black scenarios and the Ultra Steady Video mode that uses the power of IMU, OIS, and EIS to let you shoot close-to-shake-free 1080p 60fps videos.

For selfies, we will give it to the Samsung Galaxy A80. Having the same sensors as your main cameras should allow you to take better selfies than most.

Other features - Samsung Galaxy A80 has an In-Display fingerprint sensor, FM Radio, USB-C, and Dolby Atmos. The OPPO Reno2 has an In-Display fingerprint sensor as well, Hi-Res audio with Dolby Atmos and dual mics.

Our thoughts

Based on their specs, it is a good match between the Reno2 and the Galaxy A80.

OPPO Reno2 is just packed with the more advanced screen, slightly faster CPU, and a more versatile camera system for a slightly more affordable price tag.

For selfies, the Samsung Galaxy A80 uses its main cameras at the back too and that is an advantage.
