Motorcycle taxi pilot test continues

The DOTr's technical working group (TWG) on motorcycle taxis announced the pilot run will continue, despite its earlier pronouncement that it would end sooner amid legal issues hindering the process.

It can be recalled that Angkas, the pioneer in the motorcycle ride-hailing industry, had asked for a temporary restraining order versus the government's new guidelines.

Angkas chief transport advocate George Royeca said the group would drop its case against the TWG.

Everybody wants to make it work for the riding community. Hopefully we can get the success of the pilot for the necessary law to be passed, Royeca said.

Aside from this, Antonio Gardiola, Jr., chairman of the TWG, said the supply cap placed in the market would be increased to 63,000 from the initial 39,000.

Cagayan de Oro will also be included in the extended pilot run, he added.

This means that each transport network company (TNC) will have 15,000 bikers for Metro Manila; 3,000 each for Metro Cebu; and another 3,000 for Cagayan de Oro.
