An influx of fake accounts surfaced on Facebook PH

Tug-ani, the official student publication of UP Cebu reported that they noticed duplicate accounts of activists arrested during an anti-terrorism bill protest on Friday.

The fake accounts are not limited to UP students and alumni though. Other persons in the country recently found out that they have duplicate accounts.

Several users speculated that the surge fake accounts are common to users that are against the anti-terrorism bill.

The fake, empty, or duplicate accounts could be used by those who made it to discredit the person. It could also cause hard or spread false information.

Tug-ani added that they hope that this is a glitch in the system only and can be resolved as soon as possible.

To check if you have a duplicate account, go to the search bar of Facebook and search for your name.

Fortunately, accounts pretending to be someone or someone who doesn't exist can be reported on Facebook.

How to report a fake Facebook account?
