The telco in a statement said it has strengthened its fight versus online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC) during the pandemic, blocking 3,011 sites that host child sexual exploitation.

Additional technologies are also being tested to automatically block end-users' access to child pornographic content.

When users try to open these malicious materials that are on our network blacklist, our child protection platform will automatically redirect them to a landing page that informs them that the files they're trying to access violate the country’s Anti-Child Pornography Law, said Angel Redoble, FVP and Chief Information Security Officer of ePLDT Group, PLDT Group, and Smart Communications.

On Tuesday, Duterte and his Cabinet mandated the National Telecommunications Commission to slap fines on internet service providers (ISPs) for failing to stop the spread of child pornography on the internet.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said data showed that suspicious transactions related to online sexual exploitation more than doubled last year, during the pandemic, to 47,937 from 2019's 19,000.

ISPs should alert the Philippine National Police or the National Bureau of Investigation within seven days from obtaining facts that their server is being used to commit child pornography.
