Massive sensor size, advanced autofocus

This new sensor for mobile phones arrived with larger pixels, new PDAF technology, and better energy consumption.

In particular, the device is boasting a 1/1.12-inch sensor with 1.4μm pixels. When pixel-binned, it'll produce a large 2.8μm pixel size. This will allow the camera to take good quality images even in low light. In comparison, this is even larger than the 1/1.28-inch of Mate 40 Pro's 50MP shooter.

Samsung also noted that this 50MP sensor has the ability to shoot up to 100MP photos by re-arranging color pixels via its own "intelligent re-mosaic algorithm" that will upscale the three 50MP photos in Green, Blue, and Red to produce high-resolution photographs.

For focusing, Samsung's Dual Pixel Pro technology debuts on this sensor. It is the company's most advanced PDAF focusing solution yet. The company noted that it is designed to capture even fast-moving objects and every precious moment.

According to Samsung, the Dual Pixel Pro uses green pixels that divide photodiodes with diagonal structure and these diagonally-split pixels compare the phase differences between the top and bottom of the pixels in addition to the phase differences in the left and right sides for faster and more accurate autofocus even under difficult conditions like low light and fast-moving subjects.

The new sensor also has staggered HDR for improved energy efficiency, Smart ISO and Smart ISO Pro as well as support for FHD videos at 480 fps or 4K at 120fps.

Samsung announced that the sensor is now under mass production. Likely, it will be
