50MP sensor with Tetracell tech and Dual Pixel AF

Through its official Newsroom page, Samsung announces its latest breakthrough named the ISOCELL GN1. It is the company's first camera sensor that comes with both Tetracell technologies and Dual Pixel AF. It is the Korean Giant's answer to the 48MP Sony IMX689 image sensor found in the OnePlus 8 Pro and OPPO Find X2 Pro.

It is a 1/1.31-inch sensor with 1.2micrometer sized pixels and with 100 million phase detection autofocus agents. The Tetracell technology and Dual Pixel AF work in tandem to offer high-resolution images with fast autofocus for smartphone users.

The new sensor features 4-in-1 pixel binning and Smart-ISO which reduces noise while enhancing dynamic range. Other features include real-time HDR, gyro-based image stabilization, 8K 30fps video recording, 400fps slow-motion at 1080p without AF, and 240fps slow motion with Autofocus.

Samsung claims that the GN1 is able to produce 100MP high-resolution images because of the aforementioned pixel-binning technology.

Lastly, Samsung says that the ISOCELL GN1 will start mass production this month. This means that it could arrive in smartphones as early as the later part of 2020.
