Here are the new and improved features

Xiaomi said that MIUI 12 saw Kernel-level innovation for a restructured animation rendering and new physics engine. It is called Mi Light Coned Animation Framework. It wall have advanced color blending and blurring for a real-time gaussian blur for its UI. It also has a G2 continuity curve that seamlessly fit the apps into the screen. You will see an app transition from the small icon to its big interface seamlessly.

New physics engine

The new physics engine will also have visual and tangible feedback with different feedback for each gesture. 3D animation will also be available with a simulated curve for apps when starting the app.

Interactive Weather App

The new Weather app is touted to be inspired by nature itself. It will reflect whatever the weather is outside. Rain, sunlight, and clouds will be replicated in the app.

Xiaomi also introduced layered icons. For example, the animation shows the actual folder opening and closing depending on what you doing on your phone. Other new and improved elements include a confetti show when you finish all your tasks on your task list, a bursting animation when deleting apps, and more.

Reminder cards on your Calendar App

The new Control Center also has new features. When you turn on one of the toggles, it will show some new animations such as the flashlight icon "flashing" light, the battery icon fills up, and the notification bell actually shakes when pressed. The Calendar app now has cards for each important event in your schedule which are all color-coded and beautifully designed.

MIUI 12 is more visual than ever. For instance, you can visually see how much a type of file occupies your storage via a cylindrical graph. MIUI 12 is full of visualization to quickly show you your data like battery life, usage, and more.

There is also a live wallpaper system called Super Wallpapers that features the planet Mars. On your lock screen, you will see Mars from afar but once you unlock your screen you will be brought into the Martian surface. It will also provide information about the planet from Nasa. There is also a version for Earth that features some of the greatest landmarks on the planet.

Background app behavior notification

One of the new and improved features in MIUI 12 is screencasting. One feature is Private Casting to avoid broadcasting private notifications by showing the notifications on the smaller screen only. It will seamlessly work with Mi TVs as well as Miracast.

For multitasking, MIUI 12 will now have Floating WIndows that work with every app. You can open one app on a floating window and continue working on the bigger one. If you want to maximize the window, you can simply pull down on the floating window.

Ultra battery saver

For battery and performance, it has Ultra Battery Saver which only turns on key features and some of your favorite apps. It will also have an automatic switch to Dark Mode. Dark Mode also becomes truly universal for all apps.

For the new app drawer, it now has automatic sorting by category of usage. The Themes app is now available in 215 regions and in 71 languages.

New permission options are available for the following

For Privacy, MIUI 12 features a new notification system for background behaviors to inform you if your camera, microphone, and the location feature is running. For permissions, you will now have the option to turn on some permissions while only using the app. This feature is available for 7 sensitive permissions for the camera, microphone, call history, contacts, location, storage, and calendar.
