The unit that will launch in the country is vivo X60 with the 7nm Snapdragon 870 octa-core processor. This has a slightly different configuration from the Exynos 1080 variant in China.

Of course, the first thing that we tested here is the cameras.

At the back, this handset uses a powerful triple-camera setup starring 48MP f/1.79 Sony IMX598 sensor with PDAF and 5-axis OIS + 13MP f/2.2 120-degree ultra-wide-angle w/ 2.5cm macro + 13MP f/2.46 2x optical zoom + LED flash. vivo boasts that this has Vario-Tessar lenses featuring the T* anti-reflective coating to avoid ghosting and flares in photos.

In front, you'll see a 32MP f/2.45 selfie in the top-center punch-hole of its display.

vivo added that its partnership with ZEISS also brings an improved panoramic shot using the Super Pano tech, crisper wide-angle photography, Super Moon scene via zoom. This even has a pro mode for manually configuring white balance, focus, ISO.

Sounds promising right? Let's take a look at the first few shots we took earlier using the vivo X60 Pro.

Similar to a lot of modern premium smartphones, the vivo X60 takes stellar-looking images in daylight. Apart from its crisp details, what standout here is the color consistency from the main camera, 2x zoom, and ultra-wide.

The leaves on the 2x zoom are just softer and a bit duller than the main shooter. Obviously, details will be a bit softer on the ultra-wide cam. But, it is not bad. It isn't overly distorted as well.

Note: The max digital zoom is 20x. There's no super-zoom mode.

The 13MP secondary ultra-wide camera of this device also has a 2.5cm macro mode. AND, it has one of the better macro modes with an auto-activate function. As shown in the image above, it performed quite well. This allowed me to take good quality close-up images in daylight.

Just note that similar to a lot of macro modes, it only works well in well-lit conditions.

Moving to the Portrait mode with ZEISS Biostar style, we are impressed! Miley, our dog showed above, is a pretty hyper buddy that moves a lot. The X60 captured this crisp-looking shot with decent background blur and separation using its Portrait mode at 2x zoom effortlessly.

We also tried to use it for taking some product shots we think it performed well. This is a highly detailed shot with good exposure and colors. The contrast is not bad as well.

Next is the photo of our kitten Sunny. This was taken in a room with average fluorescent lighting. Even the details on her hair are still visible without oversharpening it. Colors are life-like as well. The natural depth could have been deeper. But again, this performs as good or even better than several premium camera phones we tried in the past.
Low light shot
Low light shot

In low light, if you will turn off the AI mode, grain is present. Quality degrades as well. But, this is more than acceptable for a smartphone camera that without using software tricks. This shot is even brighter than what the subject looks like in person. This is as good as the older Night modes we tried.

For the ultra-wide, you will need the help of the Night mode to take better images in the dark.

As expected, its Night mode will lessen the noise and enhance the exposure along with the dynamic range of the shot. We just noticed that it tends to favor the yellow color a little in some scenarios.

The cool thing? Its Portrait mode has a Night mode. Just make sure that the AI scene detection is turned on to make it work.

For selfies, we are generally happy with the output. It is also a bit wide. The Portrait mode works well. We like that it takes decent images even indoors. In the dark, it has a Night mode + screen flash which helped us take images with less noise and crisper details.

Quick thoughts

We do not know the official price (SRP) of the handset yet. But, this is a very impressive shooter for photos and we haven't even tried its Pro mode and all its interesting camera modes yet.

From memory, this builds upon the X50 last year. This is the better shooter even if it has the slightly wider f1/.6 IMX598. Based on the first few shots that we took, it shows that vivo and ZEISS and serious in making the camera consistent and reliable in different shooting scenarios.

For videos, we expect this to work really well too as it has OIS and EIS for enhanced stabilization.

So far, we think that this will impress a lot of mobile photographers and content creators.

We will further explore this handset to fully check what its cameras can do.

See you in our full review next week.
