During a recent virtual briefing, the world's largest mobile chipmaker said the new player is gearing up to join PLDT and Globe Telecom in providing 5G services to mobile subscribers.

DITO is expected to launch 5G service soon, MediaTek said.

Last year, MediaTek bared they have a partnership with the third telco player, which is backed by Davao's Dennis Uy and China Telecommunications.

In May, Nokia said in a statement it bagged the deal to provide telecommunications equipment for DITO's 5G infrastructure in Mindanao. DITO's 5G, Nokia said, will deliver "superior speeds, capacity, and lower latencies."

Currently, DITO’s market reach is limited to the mobile service market. The group has now over one million subscribers, almost five months after its commercial launch. Its services are available to 158 locations in the Philippines.

Aside from its partnership with DITO, MediaTek is also in talks with Globe and PLDT for 5G-enabled devices. Both groups have been expanding their 5G services for mobile and home subscribers.
