MediaTek releases Helio G88 and Helio G96 mainstream gaming chips

World's largest mobile chipmaker MediaTek today announced two new processors under the G series—the G88 and the G96.

G88 highlights

Helio G88 highlights that it supports up to FHD+ resolution at 90Hz for a smooth user experience in apps as well as minimize motion blur in games. This octa-core chip uses 2x Cortex-A75 cores up to 2.0GHz supports up to LPDDR4X RAM and Global Dual 4G with VoLTE support. 

The chip also supports up to 64MP main cameras with multi-camera support for wide, tele, and macro. This also has a hardware-based depth engine and low-power video and photography accelerators.

Of course, it has MediaTek's HyperEngine 2.0 technologies for intelligent and dynamic management of CPU, GPU, and memory as well as intelligent WiFi and 4G connection concurrency prediction, power-saving features, and many more.
G96 highlights

Helio G96 is the more powerful one as it has support up to 120Hz FHD+ (1080p+) displays, octa-core CPU design boasting 2x ARM Cortex-A76 cores up to 2.05GHz, LPDDR4X RAM support, up to UFS 2.2 storage, support, and Global 4G LTE with Dual 4G SIM. It also has up to 108MP main camera support and multi-camera support for wide, tele, macro, and more. MediaTek also highlights that it has an enhanced night-shot using premium noise reduction.

This also uses the MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite tech with intelligent resource management and network engines.

With the launch of the Helio G96 and Helio G88, MediaTek advances its position as the leading mobile chip innovator, delivering new SoCs to boost display and photography experiences for the mainstream market, said CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of Wireless Communication Products at MediaTek's Wireless Business Group. MediaTek is continually advancing chip performance, speed, and reliability. These new Helio G series chips are at the core of incredible mobile experiences.

MediaTek has yet to share when will these new SoCs will be available on smartphones.

Likely, they will be available in the coming months.
