With IP rating but necessarily waterproof

Just this March 2021, the mobile phone manufacturer released the OnePlus 9 Pro in the market. Allegedly, the said device and its predecessor OnePlus 8 Pro are the two high-end devices that have an official IP rating.

Surprisingly, OnePlus does not try to highlight this feature and Pete Lau has a good explanation behind this. In a Weibo post, Lau (Liu Zuohu) reaffirmed that the OnePlus 9 Pro has an IP68 waterproof and dustproof rating. He states that this is proof that of the device's durability and good quality.

On the other hand, he noted that they do not market this feature like other brands since the testing is done under specific laboratory conditions in order to achieve the IP68 rating. The grade IP68 allows total immersion for a certain period of time

It would not be possible to meet these specific conditions since usage and operating conditions change depending on the user. Because of that, it is not advisable to promote the feature even if the device meets the IP rating qualification.

This simply means OnePlus provides you with a smartphone with excellent build quality so will survive an accidental drop in water. But then, they are not suggesting not to intend submerging it or do not think to bring your OnePlus 9 Pro in seawater.

The majority of manufacturers don't advertise the IP rating of their phones. Damages caused by liquids are not covered under warranty. OnePlus even mentioned on the OnePlus 9 Pro's product page that water and dust resistance may degrade over time.

To recap, The One Plus 9 Pro features a 2mm thin aluminum frame with curved edges all over. It has three colors in Morning Mist, Pine Green, and Stellar Black.

Inside, the flagship phone sports the latest Qualcomm chip with the 5nm Snapdragon 888 5G octa-core processor with Adreno 660 GPU. It also has 2 RAM configurations: 8GB LPDDR5 RAM/128GB and 12GB LPDDR5 RAM/256GB. It is powered by a 4,500mAh battery with 65W WarpCharge 65T.

In addition to this, the OnePlus 9 Pro features a quad-camera setup with a 48MP f/1.8 Sony IMX789 sensor with OIS, 7P lens + 50MP ultra-wide-angle sensor + 2MP monochrome sensor system + 8MP telephoto sensor combination. It has a 16MP sensor for selfies.

Digital Walker already retails the OnePlus 9 here in the Philippines but we are still waiting for the local arrival of the OnePlus 9 Pro.
