4G mobile chips to get more pricey by the second half of 2021

With the rollout of 5G ramps up globally, a decline in production of 4G chips is expected. In turn, a price increase for the latter is expected soon.

More expensive 4G chips due to production decline?

Different mobile chip manufacturers like Qualcomm, MediaTek, Unisoc, Xiaomi, and OPPO have been focusing on producing and promoting their own 5G chips. MediaTek and Qualcomm, in fact, have already expanded their 5G chip rosters in all price segments.

With this development plus the decreasing support from wafer foundries, 4G chips are geared to get more expensive as production declines continuously. Reports also say that the demand for 5G phones is also increasing from bigger markets with an expectation of double the shipments every year in the next three years.

However, smaller emerging markets are more likely still relying on 4G which means that 4G chips will remain in demand with a chance to surpass numbers of 5G chips in 2021.
