Infinix ZERO X Pro Unboxing, First Impressions, and Camera Samples

A week back, fast-rising mobile maker Infinix launched the ZERO X Pro in the Philippines. Unlike most of its offerings that are budget smartphones, this one is a promising mid-ranger.

Meet ZERO X Pro

In particular, the Infinix ZERO X Pro brings a few high-end experiences for its affordable price tag of PHP 14,990.

To recap, these include the dual-glass back with a Galaxy-like paint finish, flagship-like 1080p panel with 120Hz refresh rate,  TÜV Rheinland certified 45W fast charging solution, and the 108MP triple-camera with up to 60x digital zoom of course.

We have the device today, so let's take a look.

Unboxing/Accessories

Everything inside the box

The ZERO X Pro arrived in a black yet flashy-looking rectangular-shaped box with a big print of the phone's model name in front and a small print of other information all-around the box. 

Infinix is also highlighting that this handset comes with the TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light (Software Solution) and Safe Fast-Charge System certifications suggesting that it passed the stringent testing of the German company when it comes to safety.

Inside the box, it has everything you need. First, you will be greeted by the device itself and you will notice that it has a pre-installed plastic screen protector. Underneath, you will find an attractive-looking black case with a big "NOW" print, paper documents, SIM ejector tool, USB-A to USB-C data/charging cable, and the 45W power brick.

Yes, it has a fast-charging power brick included in the package as a FREEBIE, unlike other more premium brands. Ahem, Samsung and Apple.

Build Quality/Design

Glass back design

For a mid-ranger, the ZERO X Pro's build is decent. At the back, it uses a 2.5D curved glass material.

Respectable build

The camera hump has a plastic frame and a glass-like cover. The frame is polycarbonate and the display is glass. It also has a red rubber gasket that should provide some sort of resistance against water splashes despite the lack of an IP rating.

SIM card tray

Better if you will use the FREE case to protect the device from having unwanted damages. We are also glad that it has a pre-installed screen protector as there's no mention of glass protection like Gorilla Glass.

The camera hump

In terms of design. Wow. This device has a pretty back cover, no doubt. The unit that we have for this review is the Nebula Black colorway with a galaxy-like glittery look and a very glossy finish.

It also has a large camera hump for the cameras. The main cam even has an extra hump on top of the hump.

My only concern here is it is a bit prone to fingerprint smudges without the case. Handsets with a 3D curved back sit a bit more comfortably in the hands as well.

Immersive screen!

In front, it uses a large 6.67-inch AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and an extra-smooth 120Hz refresh rate.

As expected, it has a pretty slim top and side bezel. The chin bezel is a bit thick, but this is still considered slim for a mid-ranger with an immersive overall viewing experience.

Top, bottom

On top, there's none. Below, you will see that it still has a 3.5mm headphone jack slot. Then, you will find a mic, USB-C reversible port, and a single speaker grille.

Left and right sides

On the left, you will the pinhole to access its small dual nano-SIM card + microSD card tray. On the right, it has the power key and volume rocker.

The device measures 164.06 x 75.69 x 7.8 mm. This is the average size of smartphones at this price point. At 7.8 mm, it is a bit slimmer than other affordable smartphones with 108MP cameras like realme 8 Pro (8.1 mm) and Redmi Note 10 Pro (8.1 mm).

The device weighs 193 grams. It isn't that heavy and it feels decent in the hands.

On paper, the ZERO X Pro has the strongest camera specs you will see for the price.

Basically, this uses a powerful 108MP triple-camera configuration. It consists of the main 108MP f/1.79 main shooter with PDAF focus and OIS for stabilization, an 8MP 120-degree ultra-wide shooter with macro mode, and the 8MP f/3.4 5x periscope with OIS which allowed the handset to zoom digitally up to 60x.

Infinix is also boasting that it has the Galileo Engine algorithm designed to control the camera while capturing images of the moon and later process the data for a clearer result. It promises crisp and clear detail with focus locking tech.

It also has most of the modes you will see on a mid-range camera-centric smartphone like AI Cam, auto HDR, Beauty, and Night mode, among others.

The first camera shots we took showed why its users should be excited about it. It takes images that are not overly processed in most lighting conditions.

The super zoom tech of the device also works quite well up to 10x. It is crisp at 5x. The 60x zoom will be grainy and soft versus the 60x zoom of high-end phones, but it can still make you see things from afar that your naked eye can see. Maybe, its users can use this to see objects or read text from a very long distance.

The Night shots are okay and it is pretty good for non-moving images. There will be ghosting and unwanted flares on some Night shots on situations with several night lights, but that's understandable at this price point.

Apart from its decent overall camera performance so far, the main attraction of this device is the up to stabilized 5x optical zoom and 60x digital zoom.

We haven't tried it for moon shots yet. But, Infinix is claiming that it can provide decent results.

Obviously, this is not a review yet. We will explore this camera more in the coming weeks.

Camera specs alone, the Infinix made the ZERO X Pro a pretty attractive offering in the sub-PHP 15K category. 

AND as mentioned earlier, it brings premium features like the stunning-looking Galaxy-like paint finish, flagship-like 1080p panel with 120Hz refresh rate,  TÜV Rheinland certified 45W fast charging solution.

Not 5G, but the performance so far is not bad...

My only minor gripe so far is it lacks 5G, unlike a few phones at this price point. But, we also understand that you can't have it all at this price point.

All of those sub-PHP 15K 5G-ready phones aren't equipped with a 120Hz AMOLED screen, safe 45W fast charger, and 108MP triple-cam setup with up to 60x zoom.

Besides, MTK's 12nm MediaTek Helio G95 octa-core processor is not bad, it is a responsive chip that is good enough to run most of the basic tasks and some heavy games at medium settings with ease.

It even has the Boost Intelligent Display Chip to allow its users to enjoy "crisp smooth visuals" every single time.

Again, this is not a full review yet. We will further explore the handset in the next few weeks.
