To improve Globe's indoor 5G coverage

The local telco giant today claimed that the company is accelerating the rollout of 5G capable in-building solutions to provide quality indoor coverage. Globe explained that IBS is used to extend and distribute cellular signals within a building or structure.

The first areas where this technology will be implemented are key tourism-related destinations such as airports, shopping malls, and stadiums amid looser community quarantine measures due to COVID-19 cases decline.

In particular, the company has successfully rolled out 5G IBS at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 1, 3, and 4, as well as the Newport Mall, Riverbank Mall, SM Mall of Asia Annex, office-retail W City Center, Philippine Arena, and New Clark City Athletic Stadium.

Globe has also activated
5G IBS at the House of Representatives complex, Legislative Library Building, Speaker Ramon V. Mitra Building, Marikina City Hall, MAAX, The Globe Tower, and 917Ventures office.

According to the telco, it has completed 73 IBS sites to provide
high-quality indoor coverage from January to September this year.

"Our network rollouts and upgrades remain on track.   We also see to it that we equip existing structures with the right technology for better and consistent coverage indoors,” said Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.

As of the end of September, Globe has over 1,900 5G locations nationwide, mostly in major urban centers. Globe is also ramping out the rollout of 4G and is busy expanding its 5G coverage. The company claims that it has 95 percent outdoor coverage in the National Capital Region.

To recap, 5G is the latest mobile technology, offering ultra-low latency, greater bandwidth, and superior network reliability.
