After months of speculation, Samsung has finally officially launched the Galaxy S22 series including the S22 5G and S22+ 5G.

Both smartphones feature an FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz Touch Sampling rate. Inside is the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 5G octa-core processor, 8GB RAM, and 128GB/256GB of storage. There is no microSD card slot. Powering the smaller S22 is a 3,700mAh battery with up to 25W fast charging while the larger S22+ has a 4,500mAh battery with up to 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0.

At the back of both models are a 50MP f/1.8 main camera, 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera, and 10MP 3x telephoto camera with an LED flash while in front is a 10MP f/2.2 selfie camera.

In the Philippines, the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G starts at PHP 45,990 for the 8GB/128GB model while the Galaxy S22+ 5G starts at PHP 56,990 for the 8GB/128GB model.

Is it worth it? Let's dive in!

Build Quality/Design

Fantastic finish!
Fantastic finish!

Both models are now made of the tougher and lighter Armor Aluminium that was first introduced with the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G and Z Fold3 5G

The metal frame in between the glass back panel and the glass front panel feels solid. It is polished to the same degree as high-end jewelry.

IP68 rating for water and dust resistance

Meanwhile, the display is now protected by the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+. According to Samsung's presentation, it is up to 12 percent tougher than previous-gen glass.

Like the previous generation, the S22 5G and the S22+ 5G have IP68 water and dust resistance rating. When pulled out, users can see the water sealing gasket on the SIM tray.

At first glance, the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G and the S22+ 5G look more like a refinement of the previous generation. The lines, fit, and finish are slimmer and cleaner looking.'

The S22 5G will arrive in Phantom Black, Phantom White, and Green While the S22+ 5G will arrive in Phantom Black, Green, and Pink Gold.

Unlike the Edge QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display that curves on the bigger S22 Ultra 5G, the S22 5G and S22+ 5G's display is nearly flat.

Both models feature a Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 240Hz touch sampling rate, Vision Booster, and Eye Comfort Shield.

On the upper part of the display is the punch hole that houses the selfie camera. Above it is the razor-thin earpiece that doubles as one-half of the stereo speaker.

The selfie camera is a 10MP f/2.2 front-facing shooter with an 80-degree field of view.

On the left of the S22 5G and S22+ 5G are more antenna lines while on the right of the two phones are the metal power button and metal volume rocker.

The new S22 5G has a decent 3,700mAh battery with up to 25W fast charging inside while the bigger S22+ 5G has a larger 4,500mAh battery with up to 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0.

Hopefully, Samsung has improved the fast charging technology of the 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0.

The S22 5G measures 146 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm and weighs 168 grams while the S22+ 5G measures 157.4 x 75.8 x 7.6mm and weighs 196 grams.

For cameras, both models feature a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with Dual Pixel AF and OIS, 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 10MP f/2.4 3x telephoto with an LED flash.

Samsung says that the exterior lens of the cameras is made of Super Clear Glass with Gorilla Glass DX which reduces reflection and glare.

Externally, the main difference between the two models is the size of the phone and the display.

Out of the gate, the cameras are impressive. Even if you zoom into the files, there is plenty of detail with minimal noise and artifacts.

Once we get a review unit we will do more intensive camera shots.

As of the moment

So far?

The Samsung Galaxy S22 5G and S22+ 5G manage to balance the best technologies that are more practical than having every feature be bleeding edge.

Out of the box the display panels are stunning with vibrant color, deep contrast, and a fast refresh rate. At FHD+ resolution, images and text on the screen are sharp and detailed because of the smaller screen size.

Another interesting is it now uses the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip instead of the flagship Exynos 2200 SoC.

Hardware-wise, the fit and finish are more polished than in the previous generation. It is a refinement of last year's S21 5G and S21+ 5G.

And unlike previous years, the Philippines will receive the Qualcomm Snapdragon variant across all models.

As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G will arrive in the Philippines in either 8GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB variants only.

Stay tuned for our full review once we get our hands on a review unit.
