OmniVision has just launched its second 200MP sensor called OVB0A designed for the rear camera of high-end smartphones.

For future high-end phones!

Compared to the 200MP OVB0B with 0.612µm, the OVB0A has 0.56 microns that will likely fit smaller/slimmer smartphone designs. According to OmniVision, the sensor has a 16-in-1 pixel merging feature for "excellent" low light performance.

Even if it has a smaller micron pixel than the previous gen, the company said that its QPD and quantum efficiency (QE) performance reached the level of the 0.612µm sensor.

This uses the Howell Group
PureCelPlus-S wafer stacking technology allowing the extremely high resolution to be maintained in the smaller 0.56µm.

Moreover, the new sensor has selective conversion gain and provides an optimal balance between low-light image quality and high dynamic range (HDR). This allows smartphone manufacturers to optimize their HDR performance for contrasting light and dark areas in "any" scene.

Thanks to its 16-in-1 pixel binning, it can capture/record 12.5MP/+4K videos at 120fps as well. It can also capture 12.5MP/4K at 60fps with second exposure interlaced HDR timing option.

For videos, the max resolution it can capture is 8K and 2x crop zoom with HDR. This also supports CPHY, DPHY, and dual DOVDD (1.8V and 1.2V).

The company said that samples of the sensor will be available in Q4 2022.

OmniVision has yet to set a timeline on when will we see phones with the said 200MP sensor.

Likely, it is later this year or early next year.

What do you guys think?
