We still remember the days of watching the growth of Tensai Hanamichi Sakuragi from a red-headed delinquent into a powerhouse rebounding machine during the Slam Dunk anime run. Slam Dunk follows the journey of Sakuragi and the Shohoku basketball team to fight for a position to play in the inter-high tournament and ultimately become number 1 in Japan.
The First Slam Dunk picks up during the national inter-high tournament. Shohoku will face its toughest opponent yet. Yes, even tougher than Kanagawa's legendary Kainan High. This is number 1's strongest high school basketball club, Sannoh. Sannoh has the number 1 rated center and the overall best player in Japan in Masashi Kawata and Eiji Sawakita.
Ryota Miyagi, Hisashi Mitsui, Kaede Rukawa, Takenori Akagi, and Hanamichi Sakuragi will fight an uphill battle against Japan's finest.
Looking at the trailers, the movie features a mix of 3D CGI and color shading. It gives a unique blend of anime looks plus realistic movements.
SM Cinema will be showing "The First Slam Dunk" starting February 1. No specific branches were mentioned so we assume it will be shown nationwide. It will also be available via Director's Club.
