MWC 2023: PH firm GCash headlines Mobile World Congress keynote

GCash CEO Martha Sazon was one of the keynote speakers in a plenary session at the MWC on the topic "New Behavior for a New Reality."

During the keynote, Sazon discussed the changing user experiences and technologies and highlighted how fintech innovations are empowering millions of Filipinos. It showed how it has expanded its portfolio to provide access to affordable services to more Filipinos across various sectors. 

Sazon is also part of a fireside chat talking about, "The Rise of Fintech Disruption." Martha highlighted "how fintech is enabling the creation of powerful and disruptive solutions that have been redefining the market."

To recap, GCash is now a double unicorn firm valued at USD 2 billion (around PHP 109.8 billion) boasting a user base of 76 million in a country with a population of 113.9 million.

GCash said the company has also been expanding its core payments and remittance business as it brings essential financial services to more Filipinos. Since then, the firm has already grown its services to include credit, savings, insurance, and investment products.

It now features an e-commerce platform that offers various retail options such as food, wellness, travel, recreation, and real estate services.

For Filipinos outside the Philippines, the company has beta launched GCash Overseas and allowed the first 1,000 Filipinos based in Japan, Australia, and Italy to sign up for GCash using an international SIM.

Aside from being able to share its success story in helping create a more digital and inclusive financial system in the Philippines, the MWC will also provide a good opportunity for GCash to meet with like-minded partners on how it can deliver more digital financial solutions to Filipinos around the world.

Globe, the parent company of GCash also attended the said event led by its president and CEO Ernest Cu to discuss with other SEA telco COES new network-related technologies and connectivity challenges in the Philippines, among others.
